LOOSING GROUND!
What if you woke up tomorrow morning and looked out your window and... WOW!... as far as you could see there was water everywhere. Your neighbor's house was floating like yours on a vast sea... with seagulls, fish, porpoises and everything! No streets, no cars, no grass, no gardens, no trees.
Of course this is not going to happen where you live, but it is already happening to us here on Bayou DuLarge, in extreme south Louisiana. Slowly, our land is sinking, the trees are dying, and the Gulf of Mexico gets closer and closer every year. Even now many of our people really live on an island that is surrounded by water. If things keep going like this, before our children grow up we may all be in the water!
What will we do? Where will our people go? All our houses will be in the water! Probably thousands of people will have to move to another place to build new homes and make a living. Since most of our people fish, trap, and hunt alligators for their income, they will want to move to other areas where they can do the same type of things. They might have to move hundreds of miles across the Gulf of Mexico to other countries to maintain their way of living.
Does this sound like a terrible thing to happen to our people? Well, whatever it is, we can't stop it. This is why brother Jerry (the missionary) and some of the other men in the mission church have been asking God what to do. God has shown them that He wants all of us who know the Lord to get really busy telling our people about the Lord Jesus Christ, leading them to be his followers, and teaching them to tell others how to live in God's will. We need to show them with our lives what it is to really follow Jesus, and through our love and fellowship with each other we need to show them what a real church is.
If we do this well, then when it is time for our people to move, we can all load up our families in our big boats and sail off to another place. There God will be able to use us to tell others about the Lord Jesus and to begin new churches wherever we go.
Please pray that we will not be distracted by other things. There is much work to do in a short time. Please pray that more people will give their lives to Christ here on the bayous of south Louisiana.
