1. WHAT WE DO...

MINISTRY AS A FAMILY

Hi, my name is Jerry Moser, and I am the missionary pastor of the Bayou DuLarge Baptist Mission Church. My wife and I, and our three boys, moved here about fifteen years ago. We wanted to serve the Lord as missionaries, and this is the place that He led us to. Of course, I preach and teach out of the Bible on Sundays, but mostly we just live out our daily lives as Christians among our bayou people. We are always looking for opportunities to share our faith in the Lord Jesus. We try to let our bayou friends see our commitment to Christ by the way we live, what we say, and the things we try to accomplish. We try hard to give a good example of treating people the way Jesus tells us to in the Bible.

Sometimes, people are glad to talk to us about Jesus. These are fun times, and we tell them about Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and His promised return. At other times, some people who don't want to hear about Jesus can be pretty rude or unkind. But this only helps to show the difference in the way Jesus leads us to behave and the way that people who do not know Jesus sometimes behave.

We serve the Lord together as a missionary family and work as a team in the mission work. Our boys have grown into young men right here on this bayou. Joshua is 23, Jeremiah is 21, and Joseph is 17. Cindy is my wife and the mother of our three boys. When we go to visit another family, our boys help with the other children of the family. This gives Cindy and me a chance to visit the parents with fewer interruptions. Most folks have big families here where we live in south Louisiana.

To help with our family expenses, we raise a big garden. Here on the Gulf of Mexico the winters are mild and the summers are very hot and humid. We can raise a garden almost all year. We also raise goats for meat and milk. We have about sixty! That's a lot of goats, but they keep the grass mowed. We can go fishing in our front yard, or in our back yard. We can also catch fish down the road or up the road! How can this happen? Well, we actually live on an island, and there is water all around us... more water than there is land.

Please pray that the several thousand people of our bayou will come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
