3. SOME OF OUR PEOPLE...

TESTIMONIES OF CALVIN AND ROSIE DEHART

One of the largest families on our bayou is the Dehart family. Apparently, their English ancestors came to this area over one hundred years ago. Now, there are hundreds of their descendants here in South Louisiana.

Rosie Dehart was searching for the truth. She had been taught to be careful and stay away from "those Baptists." One day she began to read a Bible. She read and read. Soon, Rosie saw that she needed to give her life to Jesus Christ. She bowed her head and asked Jesus to come into her life and forgive her sins. Jesus always keeps his promises and He came into Rosie's life at that very moment. Soon, Rosie wanted to be baptized, but she did not know anyone who would do this. She traveled to another bayou and found a Christian preacher who would baptize her in the same way she had read about in the Bible.

Still, Rosie was kind of afraid of "those Baptists" because she had been told some strange things about them. But one of Rosie's friends began to go to the Baptist church, and she invited Rosie to come along. Well, from the first time she came to a meeting and heard the missionary pastor preach about Jesus, Rosie knew that she had found her family, her Christian family that she had never realized was right here, so near to where she had grown up.

Soon, Rosie brought her husband and her grown daughter. It wasn't long before both of them gave their lives to Jesus, too. Rosie and Calvin wanted to tell their whole family about Jesus and about their Christian family, so they began to witness to everyone! Some came to the church meetings, some only made fun. Some were happy to talk about the change in Rosie and Calvin's lives, but others avoided them altogether. Still, though, some did give their lives to Jesus. Rosie and Calvin have a lot of work to do to try and reach their whole family, and they are working hard to do this. In the church now, Rosie and her daughter teach Sunday School and VBS to the children. Calvin is a deacon of the mission church, and sometimes he preaches to the whole congregation, too.

Please pray for Calvin and Rosie Dehart, for their daughter, son-inlaw, grandchildren, parents, brothers and sisters, and so many cousins! Pray that they will be successful in reaching all of their big family with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
